Exeter Cathedral Cadet Force

1912

Exeter Cathedral School Cadet Corps.

Postcard. One of a series of photographs of the school, produced in 1912. These are dated by the serial number on the back. The German company that produced the cards used the last two numbers of the year as the beginning of the number of each photo.

Location of where the photograph was taken is uncertain. It is likely to be the playground of the pre-1940s school on the north side of the Cathedral Close, with the rear of Bedford Circus being the buildings shown in the upper half of the photograph.

The number of cadets shown is much more numerous than the 18 or so choristers in the choir, as the school was also attended by non-singing boys. Who are the officers? What was the status of the two young boys leaning against the wall on the right?

Postcard owned by Mike Dobson (alto 1976-2023).
