No. 17e - Boys going to choir practice, Exeter Cathedral School

The school playground, with the school buildings on the right. The Singing School was the room at the top of the steps in the corner of the playground, with the boys going up it for practice. The rear of Bedford Circus is clearly visible beyond the school wall and wire fence.

Eric Dare's commentary: Boys going up for choir practice. Beneath the Singing School was the boot room for shoes, football boots raincoats etc, and other odds and ends. To the rear of this block, were the 'covered' outdoor lavatories (3?). Behind is (the old) Bedford Circus. We used to play 'snob' in the playground, a sort of cricket with a soft ball. The wicket would be where the photographer is. When Baldy [Dr Wilcock, the Organist] came to take a practice, we used to encourage him to hit a ball over the top of Bedford Circus - he sometimes succeeded!
