The "Self" is Keith Gibb.

Milner was one of the choristers. Only choristers attended the school until the 1960s, when non-choristers (boarders and day-boys) started attending. Choristers were all boarders until the 1990s, when choristers could be day-boys. As was the custom until the 1990s at Exeter, all choristers were known only by their surname.
